The Recruiting Officer, a 1706 play by the Irish writer George Farquhar, was the first play to be staged both in New York City in 1732 and in the Colony of New South Wales by the convicts of the First Fleet in 1789. It was later staged by the University of Adelaide Theatre Guild at Union Hall in 1968 with a unique decor designed by Stan Ostoja-Kotkowski.
