Born in 1935, Rod Dudley is an Australian printmaker, sculptor and painter who lives between Melbourne and Northern Italy. In the early 1960s, Dudley received a scholarship to study in Italy where he was influenced by the work of the Italian Renaissance and contemporary Italian sculpture.
Throughout his career Dudley has continued to work with a range of materials including works on paper and carving and painted wood. His early works also used found materials such as plastic, leather and shoes. The artist gifted Folio of Six Artists to Adelaide Festival Centre Trust in 1973 following to grand opening. The series features colourful layered portraits of iconic artists that have influenced Dudley’s practice including: Pierre Bonnard, Max Ernst, Rene Magritte, Francis Bacon, Henry Moore and Alberto Giacometti.
