The newly established Adelaide Festival Centre Trust successfully petitioned for the rights to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s mega-musical Evita. It was a massive coup for the Trust and a milestone for Australian music theatre history. Evita opened in 1980 with rave reviews, record ticket sales and so began the musical boom in Australia. Most importantly it demonstrated the Adelaide Festival Centre Trust's ability to produce and build large scale touring productions.
