This sterling silver trowel was presented to Florence Sayers after she laid the foundation stone of the Princess Theatre on Grote Street on Monday 14 October 1912.
Mr Bert Sayers, responding on behalf of his wife, remarked that, ‘It was more than 50 years since a dramatic theatre had been erected in Adelaide, and while the present undertaking marked an important epoch in the history and progress of the city it was a particularly auspicious occasion for Grote street.’
