Thomas Readett is an established artist and Ngarrindjeri man who was born and raised on Kaurna Country (Adelaide, South Australia) where he continues to practice and live. Readett’s practice spans drawing, painting, video, music, advocacy and education.
He has drawn his entire life and has loved drawing since he was a child. In 2011, he began study at Adelaide Central School of Art wanting to further his career as a professional artist, and it was then that he began painting. This is now one of his main practices among others. In 2015, Readett graduated from Adelaide Central School of Art completing an Associate Degree and Bachelor of Visual Arts Degree (BVA), mastering in painting and video specialisation. During his time at Adelaide Central School of Art he held group exhibitions with fellow students and completed the degree with a final body of video work based on ideas of solitude and a personal journey through his own identity.
Readett's practice explores lived experiences and delve into themes of love, loss, and grief. His graphic aesthetic is powerfully rendered in black and white, with careful attention to detail. The artist melds street art with classical portraiture to produce work that is technical and conceptual. Recently, Readett has expanded his practice into the three-dimensional sphere, experimenting with the pictorial plane and interrupting the conventional modes of art viewing and interpretation.
