Władysław Dutkiewicz, known as Wlad, was a leading expressionist artist and set designer. He was also a Polish language playwright, and involved in directing and acting. He ran theatre companies in post-war Germany from 1946-49 and in Australia from 1959-62. Arriving in Adelaide in 1950, he made a strong impact on the South Australian modern art movement. He exhibited prolifically in Adelaide and around Australia, and there have been many significant survey exhibitions of his work.
