Alex Beckinsale is an early career artist, graduate and lecturer at Adelaide Central School of Art. Mei Lim is an aspiring young digital artist based in Adelaide.
Beckinsale and Lim worked together to create this collaborative artwork specifically for younger viewers, to spark imagination, curiosity and excitement. This commemorative artwork was commissioned to reflect the vibrant and exciting atmosphere of DreamBIG Children’s Festival. DreamBIG is a festival designed for children, celebrating young people’s ideas and unique perspective of the world.
The artists explained:
‘The artwork itself features a young figure stepping into a dream like world, filled with soft colours, fantastical creatures and wondrous landscapes. In the figure's hand is a map, which is a reflection of the interactive, scavenger hunt map that viewers can access online. Using this map viewers are invited to explore the DreamBig world more closely, to go on their own adventure, and discover hidden elements that exist within the piece.
This artwork allows viewers (whether young, or young at heart) to spend time experiencing the feelings of wonder and joy that kids feel when they step into their own, new adventures.’
