Carol Porter was part of Red Planet, a poster co-operative that formed in Melbourne in1992. Porter and other members of Red Planet often used humour in their poster-making practice to talk about social issues, often delivering cutting political messages.
This image depicts Lloyd Williams, the founder of Melbourne’s Crown Casino and Entertainment Complex, as Marie Antoinette.
Red Planet formed with the merger of two other groups - Red Letter, of Brunswick, and Another Planet, from Richmond Victoria. Red Planet's work was commissioned by community groups, from anti-nuclear to women's, youth, and housing groups, to the prostitutes' collective. Political image making and poster production were often intertwined and particularly strong in the 1970s and up to the 1990s, when several Red Poster Collective posters were acquired by Adelaide Festival Centre.
