Tribute was made for and dedicated to Richard Llewellyn AM (b.1936-d.2004). Richard, a polio survivor, was a pioneering champion of disability rights and access in South Australia. He was also a major supporter of South Australian artists and of social justice for refugees. The artist, Bert Flugelman, says:
"I knew Richard for many decades. My own encounter with poliomyelitis made me understand Richard’s indomitable spirit, his wit and intelligence that allowed him to lead a rich and exemplary life."
Tribute complements two other major public artworks by Bert Flugelman at Adelaide Festival Centre, Tetrahydrons and Sculpture No. 2. This work expresses the excellence in creative activity that is valued by South Australians and Adelaide Festival Centre.
Tribute was unveiled on 3rd December 2005, the International Day of People with Disability, celebrating Richard Llewellyn’s contribution to the both the arts and people with disabilities in South Australia.
