In January '25, Adelaide Festival Centre's Moving Image Program is exhibiting Underfoot by Adrianne Semmens on our King William Road digital screens.
Commissioned by Aakash Odedra company, Underfoot responds to the provocation of climate change and a series of discussions and workshops as part of the company’s Dance Film Dance Plus project.
Filmed on Kaurna Country (Adelaide, South Australia) Underfoot honours and explores relationships to place and the environment, grounded in responsibility, care and respect of Country.
The chosen sites continue a thread across Adrianne’s work, filmed at places of fresh and salt water. The dancers feel the ground underfoot and listen to Country as they trace the landscapes with their gaze.
Adrianne Semmens is a dance practitioner and descendant of the Barkandji People of NSW. Her work is centred in stories of place and is shared through live performance, screendance and within gallery spaces.
Choreographic works include Immerse, commissioned by Australian Dance Theatre, Thread and short dance film Underfoot. Adrianne’s screendance film kuntyiri is currently touring nationally as part of the ngaratya group exhibition. She also continues an ongoing interdisciplinary collaboration with Jennifer Eadie, exhibiting witness/ tree and Unravel.
Passionate about arts education and community programs, Adrianne is also the Learning Manager for Australian Dance Theatre.
