Formed in 2009 by a group of young Adelaide artists with a passion for circus and physical theatre, the past 12 years have seen GOM successfully consolidate their meteoric introduction to the arts sector through steady growth, six critically acclaimed main stage works and broad global success having toured to 38 countries with a collective attendance in excess of 500,000.
A Simple Space, the company's first work, achieved huge international success, receiving multiple awards and having performed close to 1000 times across 34 countries. GOM’s subsequent work, Backbone, has been touring for the past 5 years receiving awards (including 3 Helpmann award nominations) and critical acclaim worldwide. Out Of Chaos premiered in the 2019 Adelaide Festival, receiving the 2019 Helpmann Award for Best Physical Theatre. As the largest and most ambitious contemporary circus works in Australian history, the company’s most recent creations, The Pulse and MACRO, have elevated GOM’s artistic profile worldwide, placing the company at the forefront of visionary leadership in acrobatics and physical theatre. The circus industry, the wider arts community and audiences worldwide have embraced the unique playfulness, honesty and physical mastery in the company’s work.
The past two years have allowed GOM the rare and unexpected opportunity to invest in the creation of a number of diverse and formative projects. This period yielded six new works of varied scale, audience reach and presentation format, intended to diversify our current portfolio. Our Artistic Program can now be divided into four key categories; The Forge, Community Development, Special Projects and Collaborations and Touring Works; Existing and Future. The clear definition of these key focus areas allows GOM to invest in work that sits beyond main stage productions, to challenge form and increase capacity for the company to embrace visionary leadership in the sector.
