Adelaide Festival Centre vaccination requirements

Wednesday, 01 December 2021

Adelaide Festival Centre will soon require proof of full vaccination to enter its venues, as an additional level of COVID-19 protection for visitors and staff.

Effective from Wednesday, December 29, 2021, all persons aged 16 and over, including staff, will need to show their COVID-19 Digital Certificate to gain entry to Adelaide Festival Centre venues, including Festival Theatre, Dunstan Playhouse, Space Theatre, Artspace, Her Majesty’s Theatre and foyers and function spaces.

Patrons will need to show their COVID-19 digital certificate on their smart device (as part of the QR Code check in process) or provide photo identification with a printed immunisation certificate. Official medical exemptions approved by the Chief Public Health Officer will need to be provided by unvaccinated patrons prior to entry.

We know how important vaccinations are for the safety of our audiences, artists and staff and we make this decision with health, safety, and wellness front of mind.

As a major performing arts venue, we understand how significant this decision is in helping the performing arts industry and home companies get back on track and to maintaining business continuity. It will also ensure we can continue to do what we do best – staging the very best live performances from around the world.

We thank our valued patrons, partners and staff for their cooperation and understanding.

— Adelaide Festival Centre CEO & Artistic Director Douglas Gautier AM

Adelaide Festival Centre continues to operate under the SA Health COVID Management Plan and adhere to COVID safety measures, including wearing masks, physical distancing, QR code check-in, reduced theatre capacities and hygiene standards.

The mandate also applies to upcoming festival events in Adelaide Festival Centre venues, including Adelaide Festival in March 2022.

The Adelaide Festival applauds the decision by Adelaide Festival Centre to become a venue that is open to fully vaccinated patrons, artists and staff (or those with a medical exemption). As South Australia’s principal performing arts venue, Adelaide Festival Centre is leading by example, ensuring that all those who hire the venue can deliver the arts to South Australians, as well as interstate and international visitors, as safely as possible.

— Kathie Massey, Interim Executive Director of Adelaide Festival

We believe the requirement will provide artists and audiences the greatest safety and confidence in coming along to enjoy live performance and is one measure we can take to ensure a strong recovery for the arts after the last two years of uncertainty. The highest possible vaccination rates also gives our industry the greatest insurance against any future restrictions.

— State Theatre Company South Australia Executive Director Julian Hobba said their organisation fully supported the policy
