After a strong response from audiences, Adelaide Festival Centre’s OzAsia Festival is today releasing extra seats across all five performances of food-meets-storytelling event Double Delicious from October 28-30.
The unique culinary and theatrical experience will see celebrity chef Elizabeth Chong, kimchi master Heather Jeong, writer Benjamin Law, dancer Raghav Handa and Adelaide actor Valerie Berry reveal the secrets of dishes significant to their lives.
Combining stunning visuals and music, food and performance make a powerful connection to hearts and minds in this immersive work exploring family, longing, loss, resilience, and legacy. Held at the nearby InterContinental Adelaide in the riverbank precinct, Double Delicious will feature four of the storytellers live on stage, while Jeong will appear on video from Sydney.
In light of interstate travel restrictions, OzAsia Festival has revised the line-up for The Special Comedy Comedy Special to now feature award-winning Australian comedian Dilruk Jayasinha as the headline act.
Jayasinha is a cast member on the current season of Network Ten’s Celebrity Masterchef Australia and has a stand-up special on Amazon Prime. He is a regular on Australian TV shows Have You Been Paying Attention? and Hughesy We Have a Problem, and recently made his debut appearance on ABC’s Spicks and Specks. He is also known for his acting roles on ABC TV’s Utopia and Network Ten’s How to Stay Married.
Adelaide’s own Jason Chong and host Jennifer Wong will now be joined by some of South Australia’s best Asian Australian comedians including Nicholas Huntley, Kehau Jackson, The Golden Phung (Roy Phung and Eddie Morrison) and The Coconuts (Leela Varghese and Shabana Azeez) – plus music from local band Trio Sepia.
Ticketholders will be contacted directly about When and Hand to Earth, which unfortunately can no longer proceed due to travel restrictions. Refunds will be processed automatically.
Tickets to OzAsia Festival 2021 are on sale for a range of shows across dance, theatre, music, film and comedy. Foodies favourite Lucky Dumpling Market will return to Elder Park and the ever-popular Moon Lantern Parade is evolving into a Moon Lantern Trail spread over four days with roving performances, interactive workshops and live music at Pinky Flat. While the Trail is free to attend, registrations are being encouraged.
Visual art exhibitions will be on display at Adelaide Festival Centre and other CBD venues, while new writing and ideas program In Other Words is set to feature more than 40 of Asia and Australia’s most inspiring contemporary writers and thinkers.
