Winners announced and students celebrated at Students Got Talent finals

Monday, 14 February 2022

Adelaide Festival Centre is celebrating a second successful year of Students Got Talent and the impressive winners who were crowned at the weekend’s final showcase at Dunstan Playhouse.

First place and the grand prize of $1000 was awarded to 19-year-old cabaret singer Eliza Lovelock – the Tabor College student is studying a Bachelor of Music and one of Adelaide Festival Centre’s Class of Cabaret alumni.

Students Got Talent was a surreal, encouraging and outstanding evening filled with some amazing talent. I am grateful for such a wonderful initiative, and I can’t wait to see what’s next in store.

— Eliza said she was honoured to receive the award on Saturday night

Singer-songwriter and Adelaide University student, Juan ‘JC’ Parlade was awarded second place and $500 for his original song Heart in Adelaide and Adelaide busker Armin Simon came in third place winning $250 for his unique guitar plucking style.

Hosted by Adelaide comedian, Jason Chong, the 10 finalists performed to a sold-out crowd at Dunstan Playhouse.

Judges included Adelaide cabaret artist Alex De Porteous, Adelaide Festival Centre producer Alex Sinclair, StudyAdelaide representative Jodie McDonald, Assistant Minister to the Premier Hon. Jing Lee and Adelaide based singer-songwriter Nathan May. Acts were assessed on their presence, preparation, talent, audience response and overall performance.

The audience also voted for their favourite performance with the StudyAdelaide’s People’s Choice Award presented to Nepalese singer Tsundue Dorjee Lama who won $500 after receiving the loudest cheer.

It has been wonderful to welcome back Students Got Talent to Adelaide Festival Centre following last year’s success and see so many people embrace this event. Once again it has attracted an enthusiastic crowd and buzz among South Australian students and the wider community.

We thank everybody involved and look forward to continuing to support and unite Adelaide’s international and local students through the arts and entertainment.

— Adelaide Festival Centre CEO & Artistic Director Douglas Gautier AM

We’re delighted that international students who contribute so much to our city had this amazing opportunity to share their artistic and cultural talents with the community.

Students Got Talent 2022 was a brilliant showcase made even more special by having local and international artists performing side-by-side.

— StudyAdelaide Interim Chief Executive Jane Johnston
