ARIA nominated Adelaide-based Afrobeat ensemble, The Shaolin Afronauts, will premiere five new albums over two nights at Adelaide Festival Centre’s Space Theatre this 16 and 17 September with tickets on sale today.
After a recent hiatus, The Shaolin Afronauts return with their new box set of albums The Fundamental Nature of Being. The five-part project was recorded over five days in July 2019 and the chronology of the albums matches the order they were recorded.
The 12-piece band is renowned for their high intensity live performances and compositions that draw inspiration from West African afrobeat, avant-garde jazz and soul music.
Founded by multi award-winning composer and electric bassist Ross McHenry in 2008, The Shaolin Afronauts launched onto Australian dance floors and captivated audiences with their unique approach to contemporary soul music.
Ross McHenry: “I really feel like this body of new music captures what is special about our band. Its scope is very broad, but it also has managed to distil our whole approach into the most focussed offering we have put forward to date. I can't wait to premiere this music at Adelaide Festival Centre, it’s going to be very special.”
The Fundamental Nature of Being LIVE at Space Theatre will present all parts of the five-part album in full over two nights, shining a light on The Shaolin Afronauts development and success from 15 years performing together.
The limited edition 5 LP boxset of The Fundamental Nature of Being with deluxe booklet of extended liner notes will also be available for purchase after the show. Each individual album will also be also available for singular purchase on CD and digital formats after the show.
