Celebrate Lunar New Year with the internationally acclaimed Hong Kong String Orchestra in their Australian debut welcoming the Year of the Snake.
Led by virtuoso Yao Jue, this 25-piece ensemble brings their masterful fusion of Eastern and Western classical music to life, performing beloved works by Vivaldi alongside traditional pieces, including a unique collaboration with local pianist Yundi Yuan.
Audiences can expect a nostalgic touch with iconic Hong Kong music from the 1990s, including music from the popular TV drama Blossoms Shanghai (繁花) , and timeless hits like Beyond’s No More Hesitation (不再犹豫) and Zhang Xueyou’s Stolen Heart (偷心), capturing the charm and energy of Hong Kong’s vibrant pop culture.

Yao Jue, a graduate of Juilliard, the San Francisco Conservatory, and the Shanghai Conservatory, has performed globally at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Tchaikovsky Hall. Her acclaimed career spans Asia, Europe, and the U.S., highlighted by awards like the Bronze Bauhinia Star (2017) and University Fellowships from Hong Kong Polytechnic University (2015) and Baptist University (2023). In 1993, she debuted at Carnegie Hall to a full-house audience. She plays a 1713 Stradivarius violin.
Adelaide-based pianist Yundi Yuan has performed widely across Australia as a soloist, accompanist, and chamber musician. Highlights include performing Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 1 in 2019 with conductor Andrew Groch and the Elder Conservatorium Chamber Orchestra, and being a guest artist at the 2022 Freedman Classical Award at the Sydney Opera House. Notable appearances include Recitals Australia, Urrbrae House Twilight Concerts, Nexus Arts, The PianoLab, Soundstream New Music, and Government House Adelaide.
Yundi won the 2018 Recitals Australia Lunch Hour Award and the SA State Final of Young Virtuoso. She was a national finalist in the 2016 Young Virtuosi Award. A graduate of the University of Adelaide with First Class Honours in 2018, she completed a Master of Philosophy in 2021 and is currently a PhD candidate at the Elder Conservatorium of Music.
Yundi has also worked with major music organisations such as the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Elder Hall, and the Australian Festival of Chamber Music. She is a board member of Recitals Australia.
The Hong Kong String Orchestra (HKSO), led by Artistic Director Yao Jue SBS, BBS, JP., has achieved international acclaim for its unique blend of Eastern and Western influences. Over 10 years, HKSO has nurtured young talent, performed globally in 13 countries and 40 cities, and collaborated with renowned musicians like Tan Dun and Sarah Chang. Notable achievements include a Guinness World Record for the largest string ensemble and performances at major festivals, including the John F. Kennedy Center and the Shanghai Arts Festival.
Her Majesty's Theatre is located at 58 Grote Street, Adelaide, which is on the north side of the street. There is no designated drop off area but cars can pause to drop off passengers nearby on Grote Street.
