Workshops can be purchased individually for $15 each, or 3 workshops are available for $40.

DreamBIG and the Department for Education are thrilled to bring educators a suite of professional learning workshops during the festival.

These hands-on, practical workshops focus on building skills that can be used in the classroom. Participants will be issued with professional learning certificates. 

Book Boogie with Curly Fernandez

Drama/Literacy, preschool and lower primary educators 

Circulating Library, State Library of South Australia

8 May, 5pm–6:15pm  

Curly Fernandez is an Australian conceptual artist with an interest in audience participatory processes. Curly will take participants through his interactive installation, Book Boogie, where the words and pictures from books at the Library have gone on holiday. Participants will learn how to create their own version of Book Boogie in their classroom.

Using Alison Lester’s best-selling book IMAGINE as a launching pad, this workshop explores pathways Jolyon himself uses regularly in his own work, to harness creativity.

Learn how to create and record contemporary music in your classroom with leading South Australian musicians Margie Jean Lewis and Mat Morrison – no special equipment required! 

Zooming In – Playwriting with Finegan Kruckemeyer

Drama/Creative Writing, primary and secondary educators

This workshop is a journey through the age-old art form of playwriting. Students will be guided to work from the macro to the micro, imagine worlds that hold countries, countries that hold cities, and cities that hold citizens – a litany of citizens. 

Senses Awakening with Sensorium Theatre

Inclusive approach to the Arts, all educators 

Latvian Hall 

13 May 2pm–4pm & 5.30pm–7.30pm 

Sensorium Theatre is Australia’s leading theatre company making work for young audiences with disability. This workshop goes through the foundation of multi-sensory methodology, providing deeper insight into children’s experiences and needs in this area. 

Create Your Own Museum with Amber Cronin

Drama/Visual Arts, primary and secondary educators 

The Armoury, SA Museum 

15 May 4.30pm–6pm 

Multidisciplinary artist Amber Cronin will take you through the creation of The Museum of the Everyday, where young participants are tasked with collecting items that tells the story of our time, and reflect on how we tell the story of who we are.
